Toggl vs Harvest for Xero Billing

Harvest copies invoices to Xero. Toggl’s standard connection adds a timer. Here is what that means when you need to bill clients.

For Xero billing, Harvest and Toggl Track solve different parts of the job. Harvest can copy invoices to Xero. Toggl's standard Xero connection adds a timer to the browser; it does not turn those entries into Xero invoices.

If you want a ready-made billing connection

Harvest is the closer fit of these two standard offerings. You can prepare the invoice from your tracked work and copy it across, rather than assembling it again in Xero.

Test it with an actual billing period before deciding the connection is insufficient. Our Harvest + Xero guide explains draft handling, payment direction and common missing-invoice checks.

If you prefer recording time in Toggl

The extension works with a free Toggl account. Enable Xero in the extension's settings, then use the timer inside Xero. Your time entries and reports remain in Toggl.

Toggl offers custom Xero invoice automation. Ask for a quote; the browser extension does not include it.

Ask for a demonstration using your rates, descriptions and client records. Also ask who fixes the connection when either product changes.

For other options, compare the Xero time tracking add-ons by billing workflow, or use the switching checklist once you have chosen.

About the author

I'm Jonathan, a freelance web developer in Brisbane, Australia. After 15 years, I wanted my client work to run on one system instead of separate tools that didn't handle retainers or Xero, copy/paste errors, and time that never got invoiced. I needed one tool that handled retainers, fixed-price, and hourly projects, let me write proper multi-line descriptions, showed me what was actually profitable, and pushed straight to Xero as invoices. Nothing did all of it, so I built one. Today it is pivotal to my business: all my time tracking, invoice drafting, and profitability runs through Hour Cap, and it scales the same way for agencies and teams.
